Each teacher will receive lesson plans, classroom resources and other information prior to their visit. Programs run from one and a half to three hours. Please be sure to discuss lunch options for your class when you make your reservation.Īmerican Village programs are carefully structured so that students become part of a “revolutionary experience” that is designed to teach and inspire. Program fee is $10 in advance for each student and chaperone, $11 onsite. The adults will be responsible for the behavior of students. All students should be accompanied by an adult throughout the entire program. We strongly encourage you to bring at least one or two chaperones for every 20 students in your group. Electronic devices (radios, iPods, Blackberries, etc.) are not allowed. Please be courteous to other guests by turning off all cell phones. Still photographs may be taken at any time. Video or audio taping of the program is not permitted. It is important to help preserve the American Village by not chewing gum, smoking, or bringing food or drinks into the buildings and place all trash in appropriate receptacles. Many of our props are special reproductions of 18th century items. Please respect the interpreters and the job they are performing by telling your students not to touch them or their props unless invited to do so. Our costumed historical interpreters are talented and dedicated people who bring history to life by interacting with our visitors. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking for much of your visit. Don’t forget sunscreen on sunny days and ponchos are preferred over umbrellas on rainy days. Students will be involved in outdoor activities – rain or shine. Citizenship involves participation and so do the programs at the American Village! Students will be more willing to take part in simulations if they see adults enthusiastically involved.
